Blending Modern Luxury with Thoughtful Function: A Custom Remodel Story

Updated: Jul 15

When it comes to home design, the most successful spaces are those that balance beauty with purpose. In this custom remodel, our goal was to create a home that feels both modern and luxurious, while also being deeply functional and tailored to the clients’ lifestyle.

A Warm, Refined Foundation

The design journey began with a vision: clean lines, high-end finishes, and a comfortable, inviting atmosphere. We chose Rift Sawn White Oak cabinetry throughout the home, paired with Skyline style doors to establish a sleek yet organic aesthetic. This combination set the tone for a cohesive design that feels both elevated and grounded.

Functionality at the Forefront

The homeowners came to us with thoughtful requests for organization and efficiency—challenges we were excited to meet. In the kitchen, we incorporated a full suite of Rev-A-Shelf accessories, including a cutlery drawer, spice rack, trash pullout, and pot organizer. Every detail was designed to make daily routines smoother and more enjoyable.

In the master closet, we added a velvet-lined drawer specifically for jewelry storage—small but tailored to the client's needs.

Clever Design Solutions

One of the standout features in the master bathroom is the vanity. The clients wanted a floating look, but we needed to maintain structural integrity. Our solution? A tall, recessed toe kick that gives the illusion of a floating vanity while still providing solid floor support. It’s a perfect example of how smart design can deliver both form and function.

Adapting with Intention

Design is often about flexibility. Originally, we planned to use lift-up hinges on the Element Design metal-framed glass doors for the lower cabinets. However, the slim metal frames exposed more of the mechanism than we liked. To preserve the clean aesthetic, we switched to left/right hinge doors—maintaining the look without sacrificing usability.

A Showstopping Kitchen

If we had to choose a favorite space, it would be the kitchen. The Rift Sawn White Oak cabinetry paired with backlit Cristallo countertops is nothing short of breathtaking. It’s a space that’s as functional as it is visually stunning.

A Collaborative Effort

This project was a true team effort. We had the pleasure of working alongside lead designer Whitney Coulas of Coulas Homes, with renovations expertly executed by Renovations by Starr Homes. The result is a home that reflects the homeowners’ vision, down to the smallest detail.
